Polytene chromosomes normal.
DoaE786/Doa4 XX females show somatic sex transformations. The flies exhibit typical female pigmentation but a male clasper, female vaginal structures and the female genital sex comb.
The wings of Doa4/Doaγ3A mutant flies have blackened veins.
In Doa4/Doaγ3A mutants where the Doa4 allele is from the mother the flies have badly oriented bristles on the head, missing or duplicated dorso-central bristles, forked scutellar bristles, fragile wings with incomplete posterior crossveins and darkened areas within the veins. When the Doaγ3A allele comes from the mother there are no survivors.
Homozygous clones are recovered in eyes and cuticles when clones are induced during first instar and later larval periods. The mutant clones show essentially normal retinal organisation.
Eye colour: darker than apricot in males.
