Description

Insertion of a 3S18 element into intron 1.

3S18 insertion in intron 1 at nucleotide position +3430.

Insertion of a 3S18 element into the first intron of w.

3S18 insertion into intron 1.

6.4kb retrotransposon 3S18 insertion 11bp from the 5' end of the first intron at coordinate +3.43 (FBrf0041384) in the same transcriptional orientation as w, very near the site of wa copia insertion.

Fine structural analysis shows that the change in the w locus is located right of wa and probably right of wch.

wzm carries an insertion of the transposable element BEL near the 5' junction of the first intron at +3.5 (O'Hare, Murphy, Levis and Rubin, 1984). This insertion does not appear to alter the size of the 2.6 kb w+ transcript in wzm and z wzm flies (Levis, O'Hare and Rubin, 1984). 6.0kb BEL insertion map site (kb): +3.43; Origin = insertion of wa copia; '-' values to left (telomere) end; '+' values to right (centromere) end.

Detailed Description

Eye colour: wild-type, in z+ males or females. Eye colour: red-brown mottled, in z1 male. Eye colour: occasional red mottling, in z1 female. Eye colour: lighter yellow background as zv77h wzl male, compared with z1 wzl male. Eye colour: darker yellow than z1 as zv77h wzl female.

Repression of wzm by z1 is suppressed by Su(z)121.

No interaction with mutations of Rm62.

In homozygous z+ female wzm causes variegation of the eye pigmentation.

Eye colour: wild-type in z+ wzm male and z+ wzm/z+ wzm female. Eye colour: lemon yellow, in z1 wzm female at 25o-30oC. Eye colour: orange with red spots, in z1 wzm female at 14oC. Eye colour: lemon yellow with fine-grained red spots, in z1 wzm male at 25oC-30oC. Eye colour: almost wild-type, in z1 wzm male at 14oC-17oC. Eye colour: mottled, with mw.

Located to the right of wa and to the left of w1.

Unstable, mutating to derivatives, most of which are unstable.

Unstable; derivatives include wzl (from the z1 wzm stock), wzmz (from the z1 wzm stock) and wzmzrb, wzmzz and wzmzw (from the z1 wzmz stock); only wzl is stable; reverts to wzm+ and z1 w+) and the white-eyed wzmzz and ww; the derivatives were often recovered in clusters.
