Description

Insertion of a 190bp pogo element into the Doc element present in w1.

we is derived from w1 and carries an insertion of the transposable element pogo within the w1 Doc insertion (O'Hare). 0.2kb pogo insertion in Doc element map site (kb): +3.71; Origin = insertion of wa copia; '-' values to left (telomere) end; '+' values to right (centromere) end.

Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

Homozygotes have pink eyes with only 4% red pigment (compared to 100% pigment in wild type).

Decrease in wild type eye pigment in the presence of Mowgamma.

Eye colour: homozygous males lighter than homozygous females. Triple X metafemale individuals homozygous for we have a darker eye colour than we homozygous XX females.

Eye colour: light yellow-pink.

A we optic disk transplanted into a wild-type host shows autonomous eye color development.

Amount of pigment formed by we not a function of gene dose: we female = we male < we/we male = we/we female < we/we/we female.

Eye colour: females, yellowish-pink; males lighter than females. Eye colour: we/w1 females, similar to we males. Testis colour: colourless. Malpighian tubule colour: colourless.

Genetic Interactions
Statement

Eye colour: the eye pigmentation level of we flies is not affected by BEAF-32AB-KO.

Flies with a we/we(g) mutant genotype enhance the eye colour defective phenotype of g2 and g50e homozygous mutants leading to a greater reduction of red pigment in the eye. Male we, g53d double mutant flies have lower levels of pigment in the eye than we single mutants, leading to a change in eye colour from pink-orange to completely white.

Comments
Comments

Placed proximal to wa.

Not dosage compensated.

The distribution of ry protein in the tissues of the adult fly is altered in this mutant.

mle4 has no effect on the dosage compensation of we, wapl, wF4-2, wa2, Dp(1;1)w+61e19 or wi.

Dosage compensation is greater in females than males in a su(Hw)+ and su(Hw)V/su(Hw)7 mutant background.
