Pc4 embryos from hetrozygous mothers show segregation defects in anaphase and telophase as judged by the presence of chromatin bridges. Most of these chromatin bridges are probably resolved because large irregularly-shaped nuclei and polyploid nuclei are only seen at a low penetrance. Pc4 embryos also show a higher level of "nuclear fallout", a process that removes nuclei with abnormal mitoses, than wild-type embryos. Fallout nuclei tend to be observed in pairs or clusters and have a late telophase appearance. There is no evidence of metaphase defects in these embryos.

Pc4 males have ectopic sex combs on the second and third leg.

93% of heterozygous males have sex comb teeth on the second and/or third leg. Expressivity of the phenotype is 14%.

Pc4/+ heterozygotes exhibit a wild-type number of sex combs, with 2 legs exhibiting sex combs.

Pc4/Df(3R)ry27 mutant flies exhibit a higher than wild-type average number of legs with sex combs, with a statistically significant average of 2.7 legs with sex combs, compared to 2.1 in Pc4/+ heterozygotes.

Pc4/Df(3R)ry619 mutant flies exhibit a higher than wild-type average number of legs with sex combs, with a statistically significant average of 2.9 legs with sex combs, compared to 2.3 in Pc4/Tp(3;3)MRS heterozygotes.

Heterozygous males have ectopic sex combs on the second and third legs.

An average of about 1 ectopic sex comb teeth are seen per leg in Pc4 mutant animals.

Approximately 57% of heterozygous males have ectopic sex combs on the second and/or third legs, indicating a transformation towards first leg.

The extra sex combs phenotype of Pc4 is dominantly enhanced by E(Pc)1 and E(Pc)2. The extra sex combs phenotype is also very weakly enhanced by E(Pc)rv4, E(Pc)rv9 and E(Pc)rv10.

Heterozygous adults have sex comb teeth on the second and third legs. The penetrance of this phenotype is 100% and the expressivity is 25%.

Mutation has no effect on the hhMrt wing phenotype.

Partial transformation of T2 and T3 legs toward T1.

Embryonic lethal or semi-lethal when heterozygous with ph-d2. Unhatched larvae carry segmentation defects or polarity defects.

Heterozygous adults show transformations of 3rd and 2nd leg to 1st leg, wing to haltere, and ventral wing margin to dorsal wing margin.

Haplo-abnormal phenotype is suppressed by a duplication carrying Pc.

partial transformations of second and third legs into first legs in Pc/+ heterozygotes

Df(2R)ED3921 fails to suppress the ectopic sex comb phenotype of Pc4 mutants.

Pc4/Snr1E1 animals have incomplete L3, L4 and L5 wing veins (9%, 42% and 37% respectively) and moderate curling and disruption of the wing along the posterior wing margin. Pc4/brm2 animals have an incomplete L3 wing vein (15%).

Pc4/Hsc70-4195 mutant flies exhibit a higher than wild-type average number of legs with sex combs, with a statistically significant average of 2.4 legs with sex combs, compared to 2.0 in wild-type.

Mutant weakly suppresses the CycEJP rough eye phenotype.

The ectopic sex comb phenotype seen on the second and third legs of Pc4/+ males is dominantly enhanced by psq0115, psq02403, psq8109, psqΔ18, psqF112, psqE34 or psqE39.

The average number of sex comb teeth per first leg Scr2/+ males is not affected if they are also carrying Pc4. The average number of sex comb teeth per first leg Df(3R)Scr/+ males is not affected if they are also carrying Pc4.

Deaf1k3 or Deaf1S10B do not change the number of ectopic sex combs in the T2 legs of Pc4 males.

The addition of Df(3L)10H, Rpd304556, Rpd3303, Rpd3313 or Rpd3def8 to Pc4 animals more than doubles the average number of ectopic sex comb teeth seen per leg. The addition of Rpd3326 to Pc4 animals partially suppresses the ectopic sex comb teeth phenotype.

AsxP1 strongly enhances the extra sex combs phenotype and abdominal homeotic transformations associated with Pc4. Pc4/+, Df(2R)trix/+ show a darkly pigmented outgrowth from the first thoracic segment, corresponding to a strong posterior transformation of the prothorax to mesothorax.

The leg transformation phenotype of Pc4/+ males is largely suppressed by lawcp1.

The formation of extra sex combs on the second and third legs in Pc4/+ flies is dominantly enhanced by Mi-2K1, Mi-21, Mi-2j3D4, Mi-24, Mi-25, Mi-26, Mi-27, Mi-28, Mi-29 or Pcl10. The formation of extra sex combs on the second and third legs in Pc4/+ flies is not enhanced by Trl62, Trl3 or Trls2325.

The lethality caused by sevS11.T:Hsap\MYC in combination with Ras85DV12.sev is not suppressed by Pc4.

The penetrance and expressivity of the Pc4/+ transformation phenotype is dominantly suppressed by mor1, mor2 or mor4.
