sex comb (with Df(3R)ry619)
Pc4 embryos from hetrozygous mothers show segregation defects in anaphase and telophase as judged by the presence of chromatin bridges. Most of these chromatin bridges are probably resolved because large irregularly-shaped nuclei and polyploid nuclei are only seen at a low penetrance. Pc4 embryos also show a higher level of "nuclear fallout", a process that removes nuclei with abnormal mitoses, than wild-type embryos. Fallout nuclei tend to be observed in pairs or clusters and have a late telophase appearance. There is no evidence of metaphase defects in these embryos.
Pc4 males have ectopic sex combs on the second and third leg.
93% of heterozygous males have sex comb teeth on the second and/or third leg. Expressivity of the phenotype is 14%.
Pc4/+ heterozygotes exhibit a wild-type number of sex combs, with 2 legs exhibiting sex combs.
Pc4/Df(3R)ry27 mutant flies exhibit a higher than wild-type average number of legs with sex combs, with a statistically significant average of 2.7 legs with sex combs, compared to 2.1 in Pc4/+ heterozygotes.
Pc4/Df(3R)ry619 mutant flies exhibit a higher than wild-type average number of legs with sex combs, with a statistically significant average of 2.9 legs with sex combs, compared to 2.3 in Pc4/Tp(3;3)MRS heterozygotes.
Heterozygous males have ectopic sex combs on the second and third legs.
An average of about 1 ectopic sex comb teeth are seen per leg in Pc4 mutant animals.
Approximately 57% of heterozygous males have ectopic sex combs on the second and/or third legs, indicating a transformation towards first leg.
Heterozygous adults have sex comb teeth on the second and third legs. The penetrance of this phenotype is 100% and the expressivity is 25%.
Mutation has no effect on the hhMrt wing phenotype.
Partial transformation of T2 and T3 legs toward T1.
Embryonic lethal or semi-lethal when heterozygous with ph-d2. Unhatched larvae carry segmentation defects or polarity defects.
Heterozygous adults show transformations of 3rd and 2nd leg to 1st leg, wing to haltere, and ventral wing margin to dorsal wing margin.
Haplo-abnormal phenotype is suppressed by a duplication carrying Pc.
