Mutation changes the level of w expression in ph-p^lac+3 flies; eye colour is lighter.

Progeny containing heteroallelic combinations of vtd alleles eclose as adults with frequencies from 0% to 90% of the expected total. Many of the surviving adults are abnormal with thin bristles, rough eyes, reduced sex combs and incised wings.

Escapers of the lethality with l(3)80Fj^2-30 alleles show rough and notched eyes, small thin bristles and male escapers show reduced sex combs and unpigmented patches in the fifth abdominal segment.
