BEAF-32Scer\UAS.cYa driven by Scer\GAL4GMR.PF causes a rough eye phenotype. The severity increases if 2 copies of both driver and BEAF-32 construct are inserted.

Flies expressing one copy of BEAF-32Scer\UAS.cYa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PS have rough eyes. The ommatidia lack their regular hexagonal shape and some bristles are missing. The rhabdomeres are irregular in shape. The eye phenotype is more severe if the flies express two copies of BEAF-32Scer\UAS.cYa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PS; many ommatidia appear fused, and missing or additional bristles are apparent. Expression of BEAF-32Scer\UAS.cYa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PS does not result in ectopic incorporation of BrdU in the larval eye imaginal disc. Third larval instar eye discs expressing BEAF-32Scer\UAS.cYa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PS show a significant increase in cell death posterior to the morphogenetic furrow compared to wild type.

Expression of BEAF-32Scer\UAS.cYa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E does not affect wing morphology.
