Polytene chromosomes normal.
Embryos have normal mouth hooks and ventral organs, but missing an average of 5 cirri from the anterior row and 7 cirri from the posterior row. Also the ventral organ often includes extra papillae of unknown origin. Dll mutations do not revert the homeotic transformations induced by ectopic Dfd expression.
Heterozygotes show a transformation of distal segments of the antenna to the corresponding segments of the mesothoracic leg. Homozygous and hemizygous embryos lack the H piece, labial sense organ, antennal sense organ, maxillary sense organ and Keilin's organs.
Dll5/+ like Dll1/+. Dll5/Dll5 and Dll5/Dll1 are late embryonic lethals; show loss of antennae, maxillary and labial sense organs, as well as the 'H' piece and Keilin's organs from all three thoracic segments. Occasional abnormalities in setal bands of segments posterior to prothorax; setal bands or spinules may be deleted or adjacent bands fused. Posterior end of larva normal.

Has little or no effect on the phenotype of E2fGMR.PD DpGMR.PD BacA\p35GMR.PH flies.
