Expression of ScerGAL4NP7175 is found within the inner regions of the alpha and beta core stratum and not the outer core.

Expression is observed in 46-70 projection neurons in the cores of the α and β lobes of the mushroom body.

    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

Blocking synaptic transmission (using shi1.Scer\UAS at restrictive temperatures) from Scer\GAL4NP7175 neurons significantly impairs sucrose-reinforced appetitive memory performance (at 3 or 24 hours since training) compared to controls. Blocking synaptic transmission from Scer\GAL4NP7175 neurons does not significantly impair electric-shock-reinforced aversive memory performance (at 3hrs) compared to controls. Blocking synaptic transmission from Scer\GAL4NP7175 neurons significantly impairs memory (30 minutes after conditioning) in a differential aversive conditioning paradigm (in the Y[[60]] vs Z[[30]] relative condition but not the X[[0]] vs Y[[60]] absolute condition). Flies undergo conditioning at a permissive temperature (23[o]C), whereas testing is at a restrictive temperature (33[o]C); there are no significant memory differences when training and testing is at permissive temperatures.

Blocking synaptic transmission either during acquisition (during spaced training) or during retrieval (at the time of testing, 24 hours after training) in neurons expressing Scer\GAL4NP7175 has no effect on aversive long term memory. Long term memory is impaired when synaptic transmission is blocked over the whole consolidation period or in the 12 hour interval 6 hours after completion of spaced training.

Sensorimotor abilities are impaired when synaptic transmission is blocked in Scer\GAL4NP7175-expressing neurons when compared to controls without the driver, but is not significantly different from the driver only controls.

Blocking synaptic transmission in Scer\GAL4NP7175-expressing neurons for the 12 hour interval 6 hours after massed training does not impair anesthesia-resistant (ARM) memory.

Blocking synaptic transmission in Scer\GAL4NP7175-expressing neurons during the post-training period has no effect on appetitive long term memory (association of an odor with sucrose).
