Expression of hiwΔRING.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4NP4132 leads to enhanced aversive long term memory after one-session training. Similar enhancement is seen when hiwΔRING.Scer\UAS is expressed under the control of any of Scer\GAL4NP7175, Scer\GAL4NP6024 or Scer\GAL4c739. No enhancement is seen using the Scer\GAL4NP5286 or Scer\GAL4repo drivers. Learning is unaffected.
Sensorimotor abilities are impaired when hiwΔRING.Scer\UAS is expressed under the control of either Scer\GAL4c739 or Scer\GAL4NP7175 when compared to hiwΔRING.Scer\UAS-only controls, but is not significantly different from the driver only controls. Sensorimotor ability is unaffected when hiwΔRING.Scer\UAS is expressed under the control of either Scer\GAL4NP4132 or Scer\GAL4NP6024.
The morphological structure of the mushroom body is not obviously affected when hiwΔRING.Scer\UAS is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4NP4132, Scer\GAL4NP7175 or Scer\GAL4NP6024.
The enhancement of aversive long-term memory seen in flies expressing hiwΔRING.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4NP4132 is eliminated when the flies are fed the protein synthesis inhibitor cycloheximide.
Expression of hiwΔRING.Scer\UAS under the control of either Scer\GAL4NP4132 or Scer\GAL4NP7175 (limited to 4 days using Scer\GAL80ts.αTub84B) results in enhanced aversive long term memory formation compared with controls. Learning is unaffected.
