Homozygotes show increased tolerance to paraquat and increased longevity compared to controls.

Homozygotes display enhanced adult eye tissue loss following UVC irradiation of 24-hr pupal eyes.

alphS-331 mutants exhibit a low (~4%) but significant number of extra R7 cells. There are additional or missing cone cells in approximately 5% of the alphS-331 ommatidia. Mispositioned primary pigment cells as well as additional secondary and tertiary pigment cells are also observed. Three out of four ommatidia with a missing cone cell also exhibit an extra R7-like cells, thereby strongly suggesting that cone cell to R7 cell transformation is taking place.

Homozygotes show no apparent phenotype. Heterozygotes with pp2c99BS-355 are sub-viable with rough eyes and defects including missing wing veins and atrophied wings.

Introduction of a homozygous alphS-331 allele into the licG0252 background strongly suppresses hemizygous male lethality.

Introduction of a heterozygous alphS-331 allele into the licG0252 background suppresses hemizygous male lethality.

Introduction of a homozygous alphS-331 allele into the hepG0107 background strongly suppresses hemizygous male lethality.

Introduction of a heterozygous alphS-331 allele into the hepG0107 background suppresses hemizygous male lethality.

alphS-331/+ restores viability to slprBS06/Y males.

alphS-331/alphS-331 significantly reduces the number of dead embryos exhibiting a severe 'dorsal open' phenotype, while increasing the proportion the either display a weak 'dorsal open' phenotype or have only head defects.

alphS-331/+ enhances the thorax closure defects of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 slprScer\UAS.P\T.cPa flies - the scutellum is smaller, and more bristles are lost.

hepG0107/+ suppresses the eye loss enhancement seen in alphS-331 homozygotes following UVC irradiation of 24-hr pupal eyes.

Homozygous aopA141 mutants, with one copy of alphS-331 exhibit an increase from 37% to 86% in the number of extra R7 cells. Double homozygotes exhibit extra R7 cells in all ommatidia, with an average of almost three R7 cells per ommatidium, which visibly increases eye roughness.

PTP-ERXE-3022, in a double homozygote combination with alphS-331 exhibits a synthetic lethality.

PTP-ERXE-3022/PTP-ERXE-2776 do not show synthetic lethality when placed in an alphS-331 homozygous background, however, a significant increase of extra R7 cells is observed compared to the respective single homozygotes.

Introduction of Gap1A13D/+ into a homozygous alphS-331 background not only increases the number of extra R7 cells, but also induces the formation of additional wing vein material.

rlSem.sev heterozygous mutants in combination with alphS-331 exhibit a rough eye phenotype. They exhibit an average of 2.75 R7 cells per ommatidium, compared to 1 R7 cell per ommatidium in wild-type.

ksr::torΔNksr.hs.sev/alphS-331 mutants exhibit a 24% loss of ommatidial R7 cells, indicating that alphS-331 has suppressed the ksr::torΔNksr.hs.sev phenotype. This effect is not specific to the R7 cells as the loss of outer photoreceptors is suppressed in this double mutant.

phylhs.sev heterozygous mutants in combination with alphS-331 exhibit a rough eye phenotype. They exhibit an average of 1.72 R7 cells per ommatidium, compared to 1 R7 cell per ommatidium in wild-type. This however is no higher than in phylhs.sev heterozygous mutants.
