Detailed Description

The pigmentation of y2 e(y)21 flies is not altered by Su(mg)1-61-6, Su(mg)1-71-7 or Su(mg)1-81-8.

No mutant phenotype in the wing.

Stable mutation. Homozygotes have a shortened, wider body than normal, the wings are separated, the eyes are small, with altered facets, and the bristles are shortened. Has no effect on the y+ phenotype.

head and thorax bristles yellow; microchaetae yellow; short stocky body; wings separated; eyes small; facets altered; bristles shortened.

e(y)21 y2 males show reduced viability compared to wild type. 14% of the mutant males have distorted tergites.

Body colour: e(y)21 y2 males have reduced pigmentation of head and thorax bristles compared to wild type.

The reduced viability, reduced pigmentation of head and thorax bristles and distorted tergite phenotype that is seen in e(y)21 y2 males is not rescued by e(y)2bsu(Hw).PK.

The lethality of e(y)21 e(y)11 double mutants is rescued by e(y)2+tGa or by e(y)1+tSa.

The lethality of e(y)21 e(y)11 double mutants is not rescued by e(y)11.tSa.

Partially inhibits ANP bristle formation caused by y+2MC, sc+2MC and y2#+9, sc2#+9. ANP bristles appear in 70%-90% of flies. Has no effect on the sc phenotype of y2, scD1, y+1MC, scD1 or y+3MC, scD1 mutants, nor Df(1)ase-1 nor sc6.

Partially suppresses the cut wing phenotype of ctpN2s and ctn2s, ctpN1 and ctpN30. Acts additively in this suppression with zop6. In combination with e(y)21 and zop6, mod(mdg4)ul almost completely suppresses the mutant phenotype of ct6. No effect on mutant wing phenotype of ct6, ct2s or ct4s.

Heterozygotes with e(y)34 are lethal. Heterozygous males with e(y)11 have very low viability and are completely sterile. In z1 wzm strain e(y)21 causes a slight reduction in eye pigmentation.

Enhances the y2 phenotype; head and thorax bristles, and hairs are yellow. This enhancer effect is not suppressed by su(Hw)2.

Mutation is unable to enhance the negative effect of z1 on w expression but has a synergistic effect with zv77h on the expression of w (males have brown eyes).
