The midline of the adult brain is intact in Dfd13/Df(3R)Scr hemizygotes. The retractor muscles of the rostrum of the proboscis are missing.

Dfd13/Dfd3 flies reared at 29oC reach adulthood at a rate of approximately 50% that of wild type.

Dfd3/Dfd13 transheterozygotes have reduced viability of about 50%.

Heterozygotes with Dfd3 have reduced viability and adults exhibit an intermediate phenotype.

Viable. Failure of suboesophageal ganglion (SEG) and thoracic ganglion (TG) to separate.

Mouth hook material is not in wild type position: defects in structures derived from the maxillary, mandibular and premandibular regions of the embryonic head. Heterozygotes with other Dfd alleles at 29oC give adult survivors with mutant head phenotypes in varying degrees of severity.
