Expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4mex1.2.1 does not significantly affect survival rate as compared with wild type when flies are raised from first instar larval stage to adulthood on zinc-supplemented media (12mmol/L ZnCl[[2]]).

Expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 results in a significant increase in survival as compared to wild type when flies are raised from first instar larval stage to adulthood on media supplemented with TPEN.

Expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4Zip89B.PR does not result in any obvious phenotypes or alter the survival of flies on any zinc-modulated diets.

Expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.long results in a mild rough eye phenotype, and expression of two copies of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.long results in a severe rough eye phenotype.

Expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU results in delayed development.

Expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PFa does not result in a mutant phenotype.

Expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 does not result in a mutant phenotype.

The adult eye phenotype seen upon expression of ZnT86DScer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.long is exacerbated by co-expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG : the morphological defects strongly so while the pigmentation loss is only mildly worsened. Co-expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG also leads to partial lethality.

The morphological and pigmentation defects in the adult eye seen upon expression of ZnT86DScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.long are strongly ameliorated by co-expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG.

The morphological and pigmentation defects in the adult eye seen upon expression of Zip71BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.long are exacerbated by co-expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG.

Co-expression of foiScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG or ZnT41FVDRC.cUa moderately exacerbates the rough eye phenotype of flies expressing Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.long.

Co-expression of Zip42C.1Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG, Zip42C.1Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP, Zip42C.2Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG or ZnT63CVDRC.cUa severely exacerbates the rough eye phenotype of flies expressing Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.long.

Co-expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG partially rescues eye phenotypes of flies expressing ZnT86DScer\UAS.T:Disc\RFP-mCherry or ZnT86DScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.long.

Co-expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG and Zip42C.1Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PFa results in a flattened eye.

Co-expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG and Zip42C.1Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 results in an abnormal thoracic bristle alignment.

Comments

Expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4mex1.2.1 fully restores survival of Zip89BΔ/Zip89BΔ flies on high-zinc media back to wild type levels.
