1940bp deletion that removes the translation start codon and the first 147 amino acid residues of the coding sequence. Generated by imprecise excision of P{EPgy2}EY01238.
Inferred boundaries of a 1940 bp deletion generated by the imprecise excision of P{EPgy2}EY01238 that removes the start codon and first 147 amino acids of the Zip89B coding sequence.
Zip89BΔ/Zip89BΔ flies display no obvious phenotypes as compared to wild type under normal conditions, or when flies are raised from first instar larval stage to adulthood on low-zinc media (supplemented with the zinc chelator TPEN) or media supplemented with 4 mmol/L ZnCl[[2]]. If flies are raised from first instar larval stage to adulthood on zinc-supplemented media (8 mmol/L or 12mmol/L ZnCl[[2]]), Zip89BΔ/Zip89BΔ flies exhibit a significantly increased survival rate as compared to wild type flies on the same diet. Zip89BΔ/Zip89BΔ adult females do not display any significant differences in total number of eggs laid or total number of eggs hatched on basal or zinc-deficient diets, as compared to wild type.
Zip89BΔ is rescued by Zip89BUAS.Tag:FLAG/Scer\GAL4mex1.2.1
Zip89BΔ is partially rescued by Zip89BBAC.EGFP
Expression of Zip89BScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4mex1.2.1 fully restores survival of Zip89BΔ/Zip89BΔ flies on high-zinc media back to wild type levels.
Expression of Zip89BBAC or Zip89BBAC.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP partially restores survival of Zip89BΔ/Zip89BΔ flies on high-zinc media back to wild type levels.
