Stat92E85C9 somatic clones in the posterior compartment of third instar larval wing discs (within a Minute background, for growth advantage) are significantly smaller and less frequent, as compared to either wild-type control clones or mutant clones in the anterior compartment.

Stat92E85C9 heterozygotes do no show any obvious defects in the adult eye compared to controls.

The eyes of Stat92E85C9 mutant flies show a mild but significant reduction in eye size.

30% of Stat92E85C9/Df(3R)H-B79 animals die during embryogenesis and the remainder die during the first larval instar.

Mosaic animals in which the eye-antennal disc is almost completely homozygous for Stat92E85C9 show a small or ablated eye phenotype.

Expression of Stat92EY711F.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Ivir\HA1, Stat92ER442A.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Ivir\HA1, Stat92ER442K.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Ivir\HA1 or Stat92ER442P.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU exacerbates the lethality of Stat92E85C9 homozygotes, such that a greater fraction of animals die during the embryonic stage.

Few escapers with eye-antennal disc Stat92E85C9 clones (in the Minute background) exhibit excess head cuticle, reduction of the eye field, partial or complete loss of antennal segments when compared to controls.

Wild type eyes containing Stat92E85C9 mutant clones are normal in size. Eyes containing Stat92E85C9 mutant clones in a Minute background are small compared with Minute controls. Elimination of cells adjacent to Stat92E85C9 mutant clones (using hid) also results in reduced eye size.

Very few Stat92E85C9 mutant cyst progenitor cell clones are recovered compared to controls.

Less than 10% of animals carrying Stat92E85C9 clones in a Minute background eclose. Non-eclosed pupae are frequently headless or exhibit severe eye defects with expansion of the head cuticle. The few adults that eclose have small or ablated eyes and abnormal head cuticle. Stat92E85C9 clones generated in a non-Minute background that are within the eye field develop into ectopic head cuticle or form ambiguous outgrowths.

Eye discs that contain Stat92E85C9 Minute clones show phenotypes that are consistent with those seen in the adult head: the dorsal domain of the disc is morphologically abnormal and has protrusions, an elongated appearance and an ectopic eye field. In 5% of these discs, the morphogenetic furrow fails to initiate and in 85% of discs the furrow only moves through the ventral part of the disc.

Homozygous mutant mosaic egg chambers display severe border cell migration defects. Border cells frequently fail to penetrate into the nurse cell clusters and can be found at the anterior tip or along the sides of the egg chamber. Alternatively the cells migrate partially, but fail top reach the oocyte by stage 10.

The cell non-autonomous increase in autophagosomes (assessed by a Atg8a fluorescence reporter) in neighboring tissue resulting from the presence of clones homozygous for scrib673 and expressing Ras85DV12.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Act.PU in third instar larval eye-antennal imaginal discs is not suppressed by Stat92E85C9 homozygosity in the full organism apart from the clone cells.

One copy of Stat92E85C9 modestly but significantly enhances the reduction in eye size seen in upd3d232a mutant flies, but the reduction in eye size is similar to that seen in Stat92E85C9 mutants alone.

One copy of Stat92E85C9 strongly enhances the outstretched wing and held down haltere phenotypes seen in upd3d232a mutant flies.

Stat92E85C9 does not significantly enhance the reduction in eye size seen in upd3x21b mutant flies.

Stat92E85C9 produces outstretched wing and held down haltere phenotypes in upd3x21b mutant flies.

The overgrowth phenotype seen in Df(2R)P3C mutant eye discs is partially suppressed by Stat92E85C9/+. The pupal lethality of Df(2R)P3C homozygotes is partially suppressed by Stat92E85C9/+.

The eye overgrowth phenotype seen in Uba1D6 mosaics raised at 29[o]C is dominantly suppressed by Stat92E85C9.

Flies carrying Stat92E85C9 Minute clones in a wgl-16/+ background show a significantly increased rate of eclosion compared to those with a wild-type background. Further, eclosed wgl-16/+; Stat92E85C9 Minute flies show less severe phenotypes compared to eclosed Stat92E85C9 Minute flies.
