The eyes of upd3d232a mutant flies are reduced in size compared to controls occasionally resulting in complete eye loss. The number of ommatidia is reduced, but most remaining facets appear normal. Missing ommatidia appear to be replaced by head cuticle, resulting in increased bare cuticle between the bristles surrounding the eye and the ommatidia.

upd3d232a mutant flies display outstretched wings.

In contrast to wild type flies, upd3d232a mutant flies hold their halteres down.

The egg chambers in upd3d232a mutant ovaries contain significantly fewer border cells than controls. A greater proportion of micropyles from upd3d232a mutant females have blocked or missing channels. The length of the micropyle is shorter on average in eggs from upd3d232a mutant females. The specification of both anterior and posterior terminal follicle cells is impaired. Young females contain a similar number of fused egg chambers to wild type, but the proportion increases with age compared to the controls.

A greater proportion of embryos from upd3d232a mutant mothers fail to hatch compared to wild type. Many of the unhatched eggs are unfertilized.

upd3d232a mutant males become infertile at a much younger age than wild-type controls.

upd3d232a mutant larvae have a significantly higher rate of parasite encapsulation than wild-type controls when infected with the wasp L.boullardi. The differentiation of lamellocytes is unaffected. No reduction in survival is observed when either adults or larvae are subjected to infection by E.coli.

upd3d232a/upd3x21b mutant flies have outstretched wings and small eyes compared to wild type.

upd3d232a/Df(1)os1A2 mutant flies have outstretched wings and small eyes compared to wild type.

Df(1)os1/upd3d232a mutant flies have outstretched wings and small eyes compared to wild type.

Ab(1)oss/upd3d232a mutant flies have small eyes compared to wild type. No wing defects are seen.

Df(1)oso/upd3d232a mutant flies have outstretched wings. Eye size is similar to wild type.

One copy of Stat92E397 modestly but significantly enhances the reduction in eye size seen in upd3d232a mutant flies, but the reduction in eye size is similar to that seen in Stat92E397 mutants alone.

One copy of Stat92E397 strongly enhances the outstretched wing and held down haltere phenotypes seen in upd3d232a mutant flies.

One copy of Stat92E85C9 modestly but significantly enhances the reduction in eye size seen in upd3d232a mutant flies, but the reduction in eye size is similar to that seen in Stat92E85C9 mutants alone.

One copy of Stat92E85C9 strongly enhances the outstretched wing and held down haltere phenotypes seen in upd3d232a mutant flies.

One copy of Socs36E189a modestly but significantly suppresses the reduction in eye size seen in upd3d232a mutant flies. but the increase in eye size is no greater than that seen in Socs36E189a mutant flies alone.

One copy of Socs36E189a has no effect on the outstretched wing phenotype seen in upd3d232a mutant flies.

One copy of Socs36E189a enhances the held out haltere phenotype seen in upd3d232a mutant flies.

upd3x21b/Df(1)oso mutant flies have outstretched wings. Eye size is similar to wild type.

Complementation and Rescue Data
Not rescued by
Comments

Expression of upd3t13 is unable to rescue the eye and wing phenotypes seen in upd3d232a mutant flies.

Expression of upd3Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4upd3.PA rescues the reduction in eye size seen in upd3d232a mutant males.
