The eyes of upd3^x21b mutant flies are reduced in size compared to controls. The number of ommatidia is reduced, but most remaining facets appear normal. Missing ommatidia appear to be replaced by head cuticle, resulting in increased bare cuticle between the bristles surrounding the eye and the ommatidia.

upd3^d232a/upd3^x21b mutant flies have outstretched wings and small eyes compared to wild type.

Df(1)os¹/upd3^x21b mutant flies have outstretched wings and small eyes compared to wild type.

upd3^x21b/Df(1)os1A2 mutant flies have outstretched wings and small eyes compared to wild type.

upd3^x21b/Df(1)os^o mutant flies have outstretched wings. Eye size is similar to wild type.
