Comment:

Inferred location of 1174 bp deletion resulting from the imprecise excision of P{EPgy2}EY16159, which extends from the insertion into MED19, removing the first exon.

Detailed Description

Homozygotes die at the end of embryogenesis, without cuticular defects. Embryos derived from homozygous female germline clones undertake development, but abnormalities are visible by the pre-cellular blastoderm, resulting in extremely disorganised cellular embryos that die soon after.

Homozygous somatic clones are not recovered in the imaginal discs, indicating cell lethality, but they do survive if they are induced in a Minute background. Homozygous clones induced in a Minute background in the dorsal compartment of the haltere disc result in disorganisation and a reduction in number of the pedicellar sensillae.

MED191/MED192 pupae show a fully penetrant loss of anterior spiracles.

MED192 homozygotes carrying MED19Ubi.PB occasionally survive to adulthood. These escapers show loss of maxillary palps.

Additional Comments
Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

MED192/+ partially suppresses the antenna-to-leg transformation seen in AntpNs-rvC3/+ flies, such that the double heterozygotes have antennal aristae.

The ectopic maxillary palp phenotype seen in Dfd1/+ flies is fully suppressed by MED192/+.

The transformation of posterior wing to hemi-haltere seen in UbxCbx-1 homozygotes is no longer seen if the flies are also carrying MED192/P{EPgy2}EY16159 and the cellular trichomes are reoriented along the long wing axis.

Comments

Expression of MED19Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-VC under the control of Scer\GAL4arm.PU rescues the lethality of MED191/MED192 animals.

Expression of MED19Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-VC under the control of Scer\GAL4en.PU rescues the cell lethality of homozygous MED192 somatic clones.

Expression of MED19ΔHIM.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-VC under the control of Scer\GAL4arm.PU fails to rescue the lethality of MED191/MED192 animals.

Expression of MED19ΔHIM.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-VC under the control of Scer\GAL4en.PU rescues the cell lethality of homozygous MED192 somatic clones.
