styS73/+ flies show a mild extra wing vein phenotype in 6.4% of adult flies grown at 29[o]C.
Homozygous clones in the adult abdomen do not show any consistent alterations of normal polarity.
Homozygous embryos have a tracheal phenotype. Homozygous clones in the eye result in ommatidia with an average of 10.6 photoreceptors per ommatidium. Most of the extra photoreceptors have small rhabdomeres and are positioned centrally, characteristic of the R7 or R8 class, although some of the extra photoreceptors are of the R1-R6 class. Most ommatidia in homozygous pupae have extra cone cells and extra primary pigment cells. styS73/styS88 animals occasionally survive to adulthood. These survivors have an excess of photoreceptor cells in the ommatidia. Transformation of some of the mystery cells to photoreceptors is seen in third larval instar eye imaginal discs. No excess R8 cells are seen (by staining with an anti-boss antibody) indicating that the extra photoreceptor cells are of the R7 type. styS73/styS88 adult survivors have extra wing vein material. Homozygous eggs are not recovered from females containing homozygous germ line clones, suggesting a requirement for sty function in the germline.

One copy of aosΔ7 enhances the extra wing vein phenotype seen in styS73 heterozygotes at 29[o]C.
One copy of rho-5KO1 enhances the extra wing vein phenotype seen in styS73 heterozygotes at 29[o]C.
One copy of aosΔ7 enhances the extra vein phenotype seen in rho-5KO1 styS73 double heterozygotes at 29[o]C.
One copy of rho-5KO1 enhances the extra vein phenotype seen in aosΔ7 styS73 double heterozygotes at 29[o]C.
Dominantly suppresses the rough eye phenotype of flies expressing argosGMR.PC. Dominantly suppresses the rough eye phenotype of spiSCP1 homozygotes. Dominantly suppresses the rough eye and wing vein phenotypes of Egfrt1/Egfrf11 flies. Dominantly enhances the rough eye phenotype of flies expressing rhohs.sev. Weakly dominantly enhances the eye phenotype of flies expressing spis.sev or Shs.sev. Weakly dominantly enhances the eye phenotype of flies expressing EgfrII.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF. styS73/argosΔ7 double heterozygotes have a mild rough eye phenotype. Homozygous sev14 ommatidia have no R7 photoreceptors. R7 cells do form in sev14; styS73 double mutant ommatidia. In mosaic ommatidia, the only cell that needs to be mutant for styS73 for an R7 cell to form is the R7 cell itself. 98% of embryos derived from homozygous trk5 females terminate in the A7 abdominal segment. If the females are also heterozygous for styS73, 53% of the embryos terminate in the A7 abdominal segment, 39% terminate in the A8 abdominal segment and 8% are wild type. 91.3% of embryos derived from homozygous tor3 females terminate in the A7 abdominal segment. If the females are also heterozygous for styS73, 75% of the embryos terminate in the A7 abdominal segment, 25% terminate in the A8 abdominal segment and 17% are wild type. The eye phenotype of flies expressing Egfr::tort4021E.hs.sev is dominantly enhanced by styS73.
Selected as: a dominant suppressor of the rough eye phenotype of flies expressing argosGMR.PC.
