The expression of ShrmA.UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4A9 induces a small wing which show dorsal curling; the wing disc is distorted and cells in the ventral portion exhibit a smaller apical area. Expression under the control of Scer\GAL4lz-gal4 induces a small, rough eye phenotype; in the larval eye disc, cells are apically-constricted and some ommatidia are irregular in shape; in the pupal eye disc, photoreceptors are disorganized in the ommatidium.

Expression of ShroomA.UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS causes a significant reduction of the tracheal lumen diameter in the embryo, compared to controls.

Expression of ShroomA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4arm.PS results in embryonic lethality due to multiple defects in morphogenesis. This appears to results from excessive apical constriction and subsequent disruption of the adherens junction in the embryonic ectoderm.

Overexpression of ShroomA.Scer\UAS in the dorsal ectoderm under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 causes embryonic lethality due to defects in dorsal closure. This correlates with the inability of epidermal cells within the Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 expression domain, including the leading edge cells, to elongate along the dorsal-ventral axis. These cells also appear to have a more rounded apical surface, a smaller circumference and to be more disorganised than those in control embryos. ShroomA.Scer\UAS expression causes a roughly 70% decrease in apical area.
