Cytology

Associated with a pair of reciprocal transpositions that are tentatively postulated to result from a pair of inversions, one included within the other. Based on reversion analysis Sco postulated to result from the juxtaposition of noc+ and sna+ at the 34A5/35D1 junction.

Description

-24.6 to -107.8. From the molecular map of the wild-type noc-Adh region (McGill, Chia, Karp and Ashburner, 1988); coordinate 0 an EcoRI restriction site 1321 bp to the left of the start of transcription of the larval Adh transcript; '+' values to the right, '-' values to the left.

Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

snaSco/+ flies lack the anterior scutellar and posterior scutellar bristles. The regular array of ommatidia in the eye is disturbed and the number of ommatidia is reduced by about 8.8%. The number of interommatidial bristles is reduced by 51.2%.

Heterozygotes show loss of 100-15 bristles on the thorax, the scutellars, notopleurals, upper humerals and anterior postalars being most frequently affected.

snaSco/+ flies have 25-27 dorsal head and thoracic bristles.

Enhanced by nocTE35B; nocSco/nocTE35B flies have only about 16 dorsal head and thoracic bristles, compared to 25-27 bristles in nocSco/+ heterozygotes.

Heterozygotes lack all scutellar bristles. One or both postscutellar bristles are sometimes present, but they are shorter and thinner than normal. The ocellar and humeral bristles are often absent. Heterozygotes have good viability and fertility.

Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

snaSco enhances the small, rough eye phenotype caused by expression of HScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU.

The snaSco/+ loss of macrochaetae phenotype is significantly enhanced by za, zae(bx) or z1.

The snaSco bristle phenotype is unaffected by elA1, elA8, elB8, elA10, elB10, elA11, elB11, elA13, elB13, elA21, elB21, elA22, elB22, elA24, elA25, elB25, elA29, elB29, T(Y;2)GT1 and T(2;3)Mpe.

The nocSco bristle phenotype is unaffected by elA1, elA8, elB8, elA10, elB10, elA11, elB11, elA13, elB13, elA21, elB21, elA22, elB22, elA24, elA25, elB25, elA29, elB29, T(Y;2)GT1 and T(2;3)Mpe.

Enhanced by nocTE35B; the number of dorsal head and thoracic bristles seen in snaSco/nocTE35B flies is reduced to approximately 16, compared to 25-27 in snaSco/+ flies.
