Cultured primary neurons derived from jar322/Df(3R)crb87-5 embryos have a significantly reduced axon length and show disorganisation of the microtubules in the growth cone compared to wild-type controls.

Rescue of the fertility defects of jar322/Df(3R)crb87-5 by expression of jarScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP via Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI is only partial.

jar322/Df(3R)crb87-5 adults are recovered, but they are found at approximately 40% of the expected frequency. jar322/Df(3R)crb87-5 animals with no maternal jar[+] function eclose at the same frequency as jar322/Df(3R)crb87-5 animals that do have maternal jar[+] function.

jar322/Df(3R)crb87-5 females derived from embryos with or without maternal jar[+] function are fertile.

Dividing neuroblasts in jar322 embryos exhibit improperly oriented spindles: 21% are misoriented by 80[o]-90[o] (n = 50), compared to 2% in jar322 heterozygotes.
