Dp^a2 animals partially rescued by Dp^hs.PD have rough eyes and are female sterile. Nurse cell heterochromatin is also increased. In Dp^hs.PD egg chambers, unlike wild-type (where nurse cells undergo apoptosis during stages 12 to 13 and have degenerated by stage 14), degeneration of nurse cells is abnormal and occurs late if at all.

Overexpression of both E2f^hs.PD and Dp^hs.PD (using heat shock) in larvae expressing Myb^Δ.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4^sd-SG29.1 results in partial rescue of the salivary glands, both with respect to the overall size of the glands and the size of the individual nuclei, and BrdU incorporation can be detected in a number of the salivary gland nuclei with a couple of hours of heat treatment.

Suppresses the DNA replication defects of milou^k13910, eIF-4a¹⁰⁰⁶, eIF-4a^162-3, eIF-4a¹⁰⁶⁹, eIF-4a¹⁰¹³, bonsai^k08322, blw^k04409 and alleles of Aats-asp and RpL30.

In a CycE^AR95 mutant background, no DNA replication is induced in stage 13 or 14 embryos by simultaneous over-expression of E2f^hs.PD and Dp^hs.PD. In a heterozygous CycE^AR95 mutant background simultaneous over-expression of E2f^hs.PD and Dp^hs.PD causes induction of S phase in the salivary gland and midgut, but not the epidermis.
