Detailed Description

Cycle 14 stgAR2/stgAR2 embryos contain no mitotic cells, and are composed entirely of large G2 cells.

Postblastoderm cell divisions are completely blocked in stgAR2 mutants.

Eye of adults heterozygous with stghwy show rough and reduced eyes, missing macrochaetae and ommatidia with one or more extra photoreceptor cells.

Embryos derived from germ line clones proceed through cycles 1-13 normally.

Transheterozygotes with stgknot are pharate adult lethal, the few escapers exhibit rough eyes, missing bristles and defective abdominal cuticle, and have low fertility.

The reduced size of the posterior compartment of the wing that is seen in animals expressing crolScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E is suppressed if they are also heterozygous for stgAR2.

When weeScer\UAS.cPa is driven by Scer\GAL4neur-P72 in stgAR2 animals exhibit severe bristle loss.

The block in cycle 14 mitosis and increased cell-size in cycle 14 embryos seen in stgAR2/stgAR2 embryos is suppressed by pUf68EP3058/pUf68EP3058. Unlike stgAR2 homozygotes, stgAR2; pUf68EP3058 double homozygotes survive embryogenesis and die between first and second instar.

Dominantly enhances the rough eye phenotype of CycEJP homozygotes. One copy of stgAR2 has no effect on the reduction in the number of cells entering S phase posterior to the morphogenetic furrow seen in CycEJP homozygotes. One copy of stgAR2 enhances the reduction in the number of mitotic cells posterior to the morphogenetic furrow seen in CycEJP homozygotes.

36% of ommatidia of rux3 are restored to wild type by stgRXT13 or stgAR2. Flies carrying rux8 in a heterozygous stg background show partial rescue of the rough-eye phenotype, but not the male sterility, at 18oC.

Partially rescued by

stgAR2 is partially rescued by stgt31.6

Comments

The postblastoderm cell division phenotype is partially rescued by stgt31.6; cell cycle progression is seen in a subset of the wild-type division pattern.
