SosJC2/+ mutants do not exhibit any discernible axon debris clearing defect.

SosJC2/+ mutants do not exhibit an increase in the total number of glial vesicles, nor an increase in the number of vesicles internalizing degenerating axons.

Partially rescues the sev6 R7 photoreceptor phenotype.

Heterozygotes and homozygotes have the normal number of 1 R7 cell per ommatidium.

In sev6; SosJC2 double heterozygotes an R7 cell develops in only 17% of the ommatidia. Raising the level of Cbl using Cblhs.2sev essentially eliminates development of R7 cells.

Some homozygous ommatidia exhibit supernumerary R7 cells. SosJC2; argos152 flies exhibit extra R7-like cells in 25% of ommatidia.

Suppresses the loss of R7 cells caused by sev6. In sev6/Y;SosJC2/+, 17% of ommatidia have R7 cells.

sev6/SosJC2 is a sensitive genetic background that can be used to analyse the effect on R7 development of aop alleles. In this flies only 16% of R7 cells in the ommatidia develop. Removal of one copy of aop causes an increase in the number of R7 cells.

R7 cells develop in only 17% of sev6/sev6; SosJC2/Sos+ ommatidia. Loss of one wild type copy of boss or Ras85D reduces the suppression to 0%. Loss of a single copy of Gap1 causes R7 cells to develop in half the ommatidia.

A SosJC2/+ background suppresses the delay in axonal debris clearance after axotomy found upon knockdown of either drk or dos (through expression of drkKK109233 or dosScer\UAS.dsRNA under the control of Scer\GAL4repo and Scer\GAL80ts.αTub84B).

A SosJC2/+ background is sufficient to suppress the loss of glial membrane vesicles in drk knockdown flies. In addition, the internalization of axonal debris into these vesicles rises to wild-type levels in a SosJC2/+ background.

Expression of Rac1N17.Scer\UAS specifically in adult glia (under the control of Scer\GAL4repo and Scer\GAL80ts.αTub84B) in a SosJC2/+ background, results in a 50% suppression of axon debris clearance, compared to wild-type.

    18.7% of ommatidia have an R7 cell in sev6; SosJC2 flies. This partial rescue of sev6 by SosJC2 is relieved by rin1 or rin2; 13.9% and 18.2% of ommatidia have an R7 cell in sev6 ; SosJC2/+ ; rin1/+ and sev6; SosJC2/+ ; rin2/+ flies respectively.

    28.7% of ommatidia have an R7 cell in sev6 ; SosJC2 flies. This partial rescue of sev6 by SosJC2 is relieved by rin1 or rin2; 13.9% and 18.2% of ommatidia have an R7 cell in sev6 ; SosJC2/+ ; rin1/+ and sev6 ; SosJC2/+ ; rin2/+ flies respectively.

Dsor1Su1/Y ; SosJC2/+ flies have extra wing veins. This phenotype is enhanced by one copy of clnSF3-2.

In sev6/Y;SosJC2/+ flies. all outer photoreceptor cells form normally whereas the R7 cells form in only 21% of the ommatidia. The addition of sag13L enhances this phenotype so that R7 cells form in only 0.7% of ommatidia.

In sev6 hemizygotes that are also heterozygous for SosJC2, 14.7% of ommatidia contain R7 cells. This phenotype is dominantly enhanced by Egfrf2, ebiE4 and ebiE90, and dominantly suppressed by ttk1 and ttk00219.

Significantly enhances the formation of extra outer photoreceptors caused by B-H1sev.PH. SosJC2 flies carrying B-H1sev.PH have a considerable number of extra R7-like cells.

    SosJC2 heterozygotes also hemizygous for Dsor1Su1 have 2.62 +/- 0.83 R7-like cells per ommatidium. SosJC2 heterozygotes also hemizygous for Dsor1Su4 have 3.01 +/- 0.72 R7-like cells per ommatidium. SosJC2 heterozygotes also hemizygous for Dsor1Su7 have 2.76 +/- 1.07 R7-like cells per ommatidium. SosJC2 heterozygotes also hemizygous for Dsor1Su18 have 1.54 +/- 0.71 R7-like cells per ommatidium. SosJC2 heterozygotes also hemizygous for Dsor1Su24 have 3.02 +/- 1.05 R7-like cells per ommatidium.

Enhancer of the dosage-dependent (two or more copies of P{sev-svp1} or P{sev-svp2}) transformation of cone cells into R7 photoreceptors and at a lower frequency R7 cells into outer photoreceptors.

Some ommatidia of male heterozygotes with sev6 contain R7 cells, this rough eye phenotype can be rescued by the rlhs.PB construct.

Partially suppresses the R7 phenotype of sev6 : Double mutants have R7 cells in 16% of ommatidia, in contrast to 0% in sev6 alone. This suppression is almost entirely reversed if the flies are also made hetozygous for ast1 or ast4.

Partly suppresses the sev6 phenotype; sev6 flies carrying one copy of SosJC2 have R7 cells in 16% of their ommatidia. Flies doubly homozygous for sev6 and boss1 and also heterozygous for SosJC2 have no R7 photoreceptor cells. Flies homozygous for sev6, heterozygous for SosJC2 and heterozygous for either Df(3R)by62 or Df(3R)by10 have no R7 photoreceptor cells.

Dominant suppression of the sev6 phenotype, a fraction of the ommatidia contain R7 cells. Suppression is repressed by one copy of boss1. When in combination with other sev alleles no R7 cell is seen, mutant phenotype is not suppressed.

SosJC2 suppresses the axon crossing over phenotype seen in embryos carrying Khc::Ggal\MLCKKA.ftz and in robo1 heterozygotes. Partially suppresses the interaction between robo1 and Khc::Ggal\MLCKKA.ftz.

Mosaic analysis demonstrates that the SosJC2 mutant function is autonomously required in the R7 cell for the suppression of the sev phenotype. Suppression of the sev6 mutant phenotype is higher than provided by the wild type Sos gene product and loss of function Sos alleles.
