apUGO35/aprK568 mutant wing discs have no wing pouch and the adult flies do not develop any wings.

Wing defects are seen in aploxP.MCP-PRE.MM/aprK568 mutant flies, but they are significantly less severe than those seen in aploxP.MCP-PRE.MM homozygotes.

Wing defects are seen in Df(2R)DG-Mcp/aprK568 mutant flies, but they are less severe than those seen in Df(2R)DG-Mcp homozygotes.

Mild wing defects are seen in Df(2R)DG/aprK568 mutant flies, but they are less severe than those seen in Df(2R)DG homozygotes.

The dorsal/ventral boundary fails to form correctly in apUGO35/aprK568 mutant wing discs.

The D/V compartment boundary of aprK568/apmd544 wing discs is highly irregular (in contrast to wild type). The resulting adult wings are almost completely eliminated and show no evidence of a wing margin.

Adults show defects in the direct flight muscles. Of the group of four muscles 51-54, only one or two develop. IFMs are reduced in width at the posterior attachment site and do not undergo complete splitting. Muscle size and volume is reduced.

In mosaic analysis of wing clones generated in larvae at 60hrs AEL no ap- clones were found that define the D/V boundary from the dorsal side. Despite a dorsal origin, ap- cells behave like ventral cells with respect to the lineage restriction. Ventrally generated ap- cells never cross into the dorsal compartment, but can define the D/V boundary from the ventral side. ap- cells which cross to the ventral side usually retain their ap expression. Dorsal ap- clones are commonly surrounded by regions of abnormal folding and outgrowth, including blister-like projections from the disc epithelium. This effect is especially pronounced near the hinge region. In rare cases the posterior wing blade is duplicated.

Complete loss of wing, retaining only a stump of wing hinge or an amorphous tissue mass.

Wings and halteres absent.

Flies expressing fngScer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544 in a aprK568/apmd544 background have ventralised halteres. In addition, the halteres form dark-pigmented bristles that are similar to those formed at the wing margin.

apUGO35/aprK568; HE31 and apUGO35/aprK568; Su(H)del47/Su(H)8 wing discs fail to form a dorsal/ventral compartment boundary.

Expression of apScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4vg.boundary partially rescues the loss of wing tissue seen in vgnull/vg83b27 flies.

A sharp boundary between dorsal and ventral cells is restored in aprK568/apmd544 wing discs expressing fngScer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544. No violations of the compartment boundary are seen. The resulting adult flies have wings of roughly normal size with clearly demarcated wing margin. The rescued wing margin is ventralised; dorsal-specific sensory bristles are completely missing along the anterior margin and cells on both sides of the margin secrete ventral bristle types. The dorsal and ventral wing surfaces are not adhered to each other, resulting in a balloon-like structure. aprK568/apmd544 flies expressing fngEP3082 under the control of Scer\GAL4ap-md544 have wing margin defects.

Expression of two copies of apcDNA.DV+E partially rescues the wing loss seen in apUGO35/aprK568 mutant flies. The wing margin fails to form.

Expression of two copies of apcDNA.DV+E+P partially rescues the wing loss seen in apUGO35/aprK568 mutant flies. Wing rescue is not perfect: a clear dorsoventral margin is observed.

Phenotype almost as extreme as for a null allele.

Not a transcript null but resembles nulls in adult phenotype.
