Description

Insertion of a gypsy element within an intron of the characterised transcripts at nucleotide 15673 in the same orientation as the f gene.

Single gypsy insert in the second intron at a site identical to the gypsy insert of fX.

Insertion of gypsy 150bp upstream of that in fK, and in the same orientation as that in fK.

Insertion of gypsy element.

A member of the right hand group of alleles. Contains a gypsy insert in a 3.8 kb EcoRI restriction fragment (Parkhurst and Corces, 1985) and 3.2 kb from a particular SalI restriction site (McLachlan, 1986). Orientation of gypsy element opposite that of the gene.

fA homozygotes and fA/f1 transheterozygotes exhibit a fork-bristle phenotype.

Compared to controls, homozygous mutants show a reduced response to an auditory stimulus mimicking flies' courtship song.

Larvae exhibit a weak bristle phenotype within the denticles of all rows.

The f1 phenotype is not suppressed in flies carrying su(Hw)wt or su(Hw)Δ656-705 in a su(Hw)7/su(Hw)V background, partly suppressed in flies carrying su(Hw)Δ706-736, su(Hw)Δ673-943, su(Hw)Δ853-880 or su(Hw)Δ881-944 in a su(Hw)7/su(Hw)V background, and strongly or completely suppressed in flies carrying su(Hw)Δ2-203.673-943, su(Hw)Δ738-780, su(Hw)Δ2-203 or su(Hw)Δ782-944 in a su(Hw)7/su(Hw)V background.

Mild f bristle phenotype. Bristle phenotype is under the control of a second site modifier.

Flies have forked bristles. Phenotype is unaffected by mod(mdg4)ul.

Phenotype is not affected by DoaHD or Doa6.

f53a13/f1 females have a very slight forked phenotype.

moderate - moderate with both macrochaetae and microchaetae clearly affected suppressed by su(f) suppressed by su(Hw)2

f1 ; ckKT9 double mutants show a slight reduction in both size and sharpness of the denticles compared to either single mutant.

m1 f1 ckKT9 triple mutants show almost no elongation of the denticles.

Phenotype is suppressed by a number of su(f) alleles. Strength of suppression of the f1 phenotype: su(f)1 > su(f)4 > su(f)12 > su(f)8.

f1 su(f)4 males and females are f+ at 17-18oC. f1 su(f)4/f1 su(f)1 females are f+, like f1 su(f)1/f1 su(f)1, at all temperatures. f1 su(f)2/f1 su(f)1 females are f+ at 24-25oC. f1 su(f)2/f5 su(f)1 females show suppression of the f mutant phenotype similar to that seen in f1 su(f)1/f5 su(f)1 females at 24-25oC. At 20-30oC, the f1 su(f)2/f5 su(f)1 combination shows suppression of the f mutant phenotype but bristles are Minute-like.
