The following genotypes results in short lived adults that exhibit a progressive reduction in climbing ability and a progressive brain vacuolization: lncRNA:let7CKO2/Df(2L)let-7-CGKI, lncRNA:let7CΔmiRNAs, lncRNA:let7C3.3; lncRNA:let7CKO2/Df(2L)let-7-CGKI, lncRNA:let7CΔmir-let7; lncRNA:let7CKO2/Df(2L)let-7-CGKI, lncRNA:let7CΔmir-125.

Adults transheterozygous for lncRNA:let7CKO2/Df(2L)let-7-CGKI and also bearing lncRNA:let7C+tCa and lncRNA:let7C3.3 exhibit a progressive brain vacuolization.

Adults transheterozygous for lncRNA:let7CKO2/lncRNA:let7CKO1 and also bearing lncRNA:let7CΔmir-let7 or lncRNA:let7CΔmir-125 exhibit a decrease in the number of pioneer α/β mushroom body neurons.

let-7-CKO2 mutant neurons display delays in the α'/β' to p.α/β and p.α/β to α/β transitions in mushroom body neuron identities during neurogenesis, compared to wild type. Consistent with this, let-7-CKO1/let-7-CKO2 adults show an increased number of earlier born α'/&bgr' neurons, and a decreased number of later born p.α/β neurons. While the morphology of mutant mushroom bodies is grossly normal, some p.α/β and α/β axons inappropriately cross the midline.

let-7-CKO2/+ adults show a reduction in p.α/β mushroom body neurons.

The reduction in p.α/β mushroom body neurons in let-7-CKO2/+ adults is restored to normal numbers by chinmo1/+.

chinmo1; let-7-CKO2 double mutants neurons aberrantly acquire late-type neurite trajectories, as displayed by chinmo1 single mutant neurons. Mushroom bodies generated from double mutant neuroblasts appear identical to those generated from chinmo1 single mutants.

Generated in parallel with Df(2L)let-7-CGKI and is identical to it except that the endogenous let-7-C locus is replaced with w rather than w and Scer\GAL4.
