Homozygotes die primarily as pharate adults: in a balanced Bap170^G5986 heterozygous stock, homozygous males make up less than 3% of all male progeny able to hatch, whereas no female escapers are found.

Homozygotes display a 'bent-leg' phenotype.

The combination of Bap170^G5986/+ with polybromo^33.2/+ act as strong dominant enhancers of the penetrance of the e(y)3⁴/Y bent-leg phenotype in male flies.

polybromo^33.2/+ further reduces Bap170^G5986 viability and enhances its leg malformation phenotype.

Flies homozygous for both Bap170^G5986 and polybromo^33.2 are not viable and die before or at the pharate adult stage. Pharates show a severe leg elongation defect and microcephaly.

The frequency of posterior-to-anterior leg transformations is reduced in transheterozygous males when Pc¹ or Pc³ is combined with both Bap170^G5986/+ and polybromo^33.2/+.
