Description

AAG (starting at nucleotide position 15643) is replaced with C. This results in a frameshift after amino acid residue G2189, producing a truncated protein containing 2189 N residues followed by an additional 138 amino acid residues.

Midguts from NMcd1 heterozygotes at 10 days of age show abnormal intestinal stem cell to enteroblast ratio, imbalanced towards the latter.

Heterozygotes have a low density of microchaetae on the notum.

Heterozygotes show loss of thoracic microchaetae, having 69.83 +/- 1.11 thoracic microchaetae per heminotum (compared to the wild-type number of 130.35 +/- 1.54). 99% of thoracic microchaetae are missing in homozygous clones, whereas macrochaetae are unaffected. Animals carrying 1 copy of NMcd1 in the presence of 2 copies of N+ have 90.67 +/- 1.39 thoracic microchaetae per heminotum. Animals carrying 2 copies of NMcd1 in the presence of 1 copy of N+ have 40.33 +/- 1.31 thoracic microchaetae per heminotum. NMcd1/Nl1N-ts1 flies have 53.83 +/- 1.78 thoracic microchaetae per heminotum.

Expression of Hip1ΔANTH.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 suppresses the abnormal microchaetae density phenotype seen on the notum of NMcd1 flies.

Expression of Hip1Scer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 enhances the abnormal microchaetae density phenotype seen on the notum of NMcd1 flies.

The low density of microchaetae on the notum seen in NMcd1/+ flies is not rescued by ed1X5/edslH8.

NMcd1 groE48 double mutant clones lack the ectopic microchaetae seen in groE48 clones. Ectopic macrochaetae are seen in NMcd1 emc1 double mutant clones (as is seen in emc1 single mutant clones). dxENU and dxP dominantly suppress the loss of microchaetae seen in NMcd1 heterozygotes, increasing the number of microchaetae per heminotum to 78.33 +/- 1.09 and 76.42 +/- 2.21 respectively. Su(H)IB115 dominantly enhances the loss of microchaetae seen in NMcd1 heterozygotes, reducing the number of microchaetae per heminotum to...
