Detailed Description

72% of flies expressing domdsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4bbg-C96 in a dom9/+ background show wing nicking.

Lethality acts during pupal and adult stages. There are no clear larval defects. Surviving adults are female-sterile (ovaries apparently normal, eggs are laid) but male fertile. Wings are often abnormal with crumpled, held-out phenotypes. Somatic clones can be induced though they show reduced cell number compared to wild type counterparts. Females with germline clones lay a few eggs which show a broad range of defects and are inviable.

Expression of domT:Scer\TY1,T:Avic\GFP-SF,T:Zzzz\FLAG, domA.T:Scer\TY1,T:Avic\GFP-SF,T:Zzzz\FLAG, or domB.T:Scer\TY1,T:Avic\GFP-SF,T:Zzzz\FLAG partially rescues the pupal lethality of dom9/dom9 mutants, and surviving females do not exhibit a significant decrease in fertility.
