    wgunspecified embryos lack smooth cuticle.

    Mutant embryos have a "lawn of denticles" phenotype.

    NB4-2 is present in 18% of hemisegments in mutant embryos.

    wg mutant embryos differentiate row 5 denticles, alternating in mirror image with small, row 2 - 4 type denticles.

    Mutant embryos show an increase in the number of midline glial cells. Commissures are reduced.

    The developing stomatogastric nervous system is fused to one invagination (instead of the normal three) in mutant embryos.

    Homozygous embryos have a broad array of central nervous system defects, including gaps in the longitudinals and poorly formed commissures.

    The anteriormost part of the protocerebrum is absent from stage 13 onwards in homozygous embryos. The posterior part of the protocerebrum appears normal in homozygous embryos, and the deutocerebrum and tritocerebrum differentiate normally. All major brain commissures and descending pathways are present. The frontal connective innervates the brain more posteriorly than in wild-type flies.

    Only one invagination in the dorsal epithelium of the foregut (which will give rise to the stomatogastric nervous system) forms in wgunspecified embryos, in contrast to wild-type, where three invaginations are formed.

    Denticle bands are duplicated at the expense of naked cuticle in wgunspecified mutant embryos.

    The notum may be reduced, deleted or duplicated. The pleura may be reduced. Mutant mesothoracic discs are smaller than normal and show increased cell death.

    The addition of wgunspecified has no effect on the interneuron phenotype seen in drlScer\UAS.cCa, Scer\GAL4eg-Mz360 animals.

    wgunspecified/+ enhances the wing defects caused by expression of groNterm.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4sd-SG29.1.

    Embryos null for both wg and en have no smooth cuticle, and the remaining denticles are row 5 like.

    The segment polarity phenotype seen in embryos derived from dally06464 germline clones is enhanced in combination with wgunspecified. Penetrance is increased from 8% to 16%.

    Dominantly enhances the penetrance of the RP2/sib lineage phenotype produced by fz2ECD.GPI.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32.

    The production of extra eve-positive mesodermal cells caused by expression of Ras85DG13Q.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4unspecified is suppressed if the embryos are also carrying wgunspecified. No eve-positive mesodermal cells develop in wgunspecified; Dlunspecified double mutants, as in wgunspecified single mutants.

    When discs expressing Dl::NΔECN.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4C96 are also mutant for wg, no ZNC forms at all.

    If dshw,dshunspecified flies are also made heterozygous for a wg allele, the frequency of wg-like defects increases to 100%, including missing/reduced wings, duplicated nota, head defects and leg abnormalities.
