Detailed Description

In contrast to wild-types, no clear wing membrane ridge orientation is apparent in either the anterior or posterior region of the wing of VangTbs42 mutants.

Show moderate multiple wing hair phenotype.

Homozygous VangTbs42 clones in the wing exhibit a non-symmetrical domineering non-autonomy. The polarity defects seen are biased in that cells medial to the clone are more likely to be affected.

Show complete penetrance for the wing hair swirl phenotype. Homozygotes show a stronger phenotype than hemizygotes. Phenotype is stronger at 29oC than at 18oC. Phenotype falls between that of the fz-like and in-like classes of phenotype. Clonal analysis with VangTbs42 reveals that Vang acts cell nonautonomously, and shows domineering nonautonomy.

Homozygous flies have polarity disruption in the wing, thorax, eyes and abdomen. Heterozygous flies have polarity disruption in the C-region of the wing.

The combination of grhFK2131/+ and VangTbs42 produces tissue polarity defects in the wing over a much larger fraction of the wing than do the single mutants alone.

Double mutants of VangTbs42, VangA3 or VangA5 with fz24, dsh1 inunspecified and mwhunspecified all showed hair polarity pattern typical of the fz-in group. Vang is epistatic to pk; double mutants of VangTbs42, VangA3 or VangA5 with pk1 show a fz-in group phenotype, possible less severe than for the Vang single mutant. Dominant wing basal cell 1 swirl phenotype shows no interaction with dsh, in, fy, frtz, stan or mwh mutants, nor with deficiencies for wg, Wnt2, Wnt4 or Wnt5. VangA3 and VangTbs42, but not Vang11-3 act as dominant enhancers of the dominant phenotype of Df(2R)pk78s. VangTbs42, pk1 double mutants show an increase in multiple wing hair cells over either single mutant. VangTbs42 is a strong dominant enhancer of fz24. In double mutant combinations between VangA3, VangA5 and VangTbs42 with fz1, fz25 and fz30, the fz-in type of polarity pattern was slightly less abnormal than in either single mutant. The domineering nonautonomy of VangTbs42 clones can be suppressed by fz25 and fz30.
