Detailed Description

Depending on training protocol used, expression of Nicd.hs following heat shock in adults can impair long term memory formation.

Expression of Nicd.hs using heat shock in 0-8 hour old pupae results in the loss of most microchaetae on the notum.

Mutant embryos produce one eve expressing pericardial cell (EPC) and two myocardial cells per hemisegment.

Disrupts germ band retraction.

Expression of Nicd.hs produces adult eyes containing ommatidia with 4-5 outer cells and up to three R7-like cells. Some ommatidia have only one or two R7 photoreceptors.

37oC heat pulse at 24hr APF in pupae being raised at 29oC causes a mild double socket phenotype.

The number of eve-expressing pericardial cells is increased and DA1 muscles usually fail to form in embryos in which Nicd.hs is expressed using heat shock at late stage 11. A similar phenotype is seen in these embryos are also expressing numbfl.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of both Scer\GAL4how-24B and Scer\GAL4twi.PG.

60 minute heat shock at 37oX at 7-9 hours APF causes complete loss of microchaetes on the notum and shaft to socket transformation of macrochaetes. kuze29-4 mutant clones on the notum cause the formation of clusters of macrochaetes and microchaetes, microchaetae clusters are abolished by expression of Nicd.hs at 7-9 hours APF.

Strong antineurogenic phenotype that is independent of the N background.

Expression of Nicd.hs by performing daily heat-shocks for 5 days of adulthood significantly reduces the frequency of compound egg chamber formation in Ime4c1 mutant ovaries and allows progression through oogenesis past the previtellogenic stages.

The heat-shocked progeny from heterozygous amx1 females crossed to Nicd.hs males hatch at a reduced rate compared to wild type and only around 50% reach adulthood.

Fewer neurogenic phenotypes are seen in stage 8 embryos when homozygous amx1 mutant females are crossed to Nicd.hs males (heat-shocked before the first delamination round) than when amx1 females are crossed to wild type males.

The loss of microchaetae seen in animals expressing Nicd.hs using heat shock in 0-8 hour old pupae is not rescued by expression of edΔECD.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4.

The Nicd.hs mild double socket phenotype is enhanced by Pros261 and Prosβ21. The Nicd.hs gene product is more stable in Pros261 expressing cells.

Fails to rescue the neurogenic phenotype of E(spl) mutants but rescues the neurogenic phenotype of bib mutants.
