Expression of a human APOE variant 2 (Cys112, Cys158) reported to protect against Alzheimer's disease (AD) and to a lesser extent also that of variant 3 (Cys112, Arg158) rescues the glial lipid droplet accumulation observed in ND42 or Marf knockdown flies that lack Glaz, while the variant 4 (Arg112, Arg158) associated with higher risk of developing AD does not improve the phenotype.
