leg | ectopic | cold sensitive, with Caf1-55med/Caf1-55short, Scer\GAL4Ubi.PU
Caf1short/Caf1med flies expressing Caf1Scer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4Ubi and raised at 18[o]C during the third larval instar stage have disorganised kidney-shaped eyes with abnormalities in the arrangement of rhabdomeres (including loss of small central rhabdomeres) and show homeotic transformation of the arista to leg-like structures that occasionally end in claws. These defects are not seen if the animals are raised at 25[o]C during the third larval instar stage.
The eyes of flies expressing Caf1Scer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PU and raised at 25[o]C are disorganised, containing reduced numbers of interommatidial bristles and being slightly smaller than those of controls. The phenotype is more severe at 30[o]C or with increased copy number of the Caf1Scer\UAS.cAa and Scer\GAL4ey.PU constructs.
Third larval instar eye discs expressing Caf1Scer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PU show significant apoptosis in the anterior region of the disc.
