jetc mutants can be trained to light:dark LD cycles, but take longer to be re-entrained to a new schedule than wild-type flies. The behaviour of these mutant flies within LD and constant darkness is not different to wild-type flies.

While few wild-type flies show rhythmic behaviour in constant light conditions, jetc, jetc/jetr, jetc/Df(2L)Exel8012 and jetc/Df(2L)Exel7021 mutants all show rhythmic behaviour under these conditions. Additionally, jetr mutants show reduced responses to light pulses compared to wild-type flies.

timls, jetc double mutants are referred to as "Veela" flies. 85% of timls/timls, jetc/jetc (Veela/Veela) double mutants show anomalous rhythmicity when kept in constant light, while 31% of timls/+, jetc/+ (Veela/+) double heterozygotes show this phenotype. Flies of this genotype behave normally when kept in constant darkness.

timls/+, jetc/+ (Veela/+); cryb/+ flies exhibit robust rhythmicity in constant light, this phenotype is stronger than in timls/+, jetc/+ (Veela/+) flies and is not seen in cryb/+ flies.

tims, jetc show behavioral arrhythmicity in constant light conditions, like wild-type flies.

timls/tim01, jetc (Veela/tim01) flies show 22% anomalous rhythmicity when kept in constant light, while flies of the same genotype that additionally carry one copy of the timper3'UTR.tim.T:Ivir\HA1 transgene (which has the same coding sequence as the timls allele) show 63% rhythmicity in constant light.

Comments

Expression of the jetScer\UAS.cKa transgene, under the control of either Scer\GAL4cry.PU or Scer\GAL4tim.PE, partially rescues the reduced light response phenotype of jetc mutants.
