Cul-5EY21463/Df(3R)3450 larvae show a significant increase in bouton number and branching (counted from muscles 6 and 7 of abdominal segment A2), compared to controls.

Egg chambers from Cul-5EY21463 females show defects including: absent nurse cells, degraded nurse cells.

Homozygous Cul-5EY21463 mothers produce mostly collapsed eggs. Some of these mutant embryos develop aberrantly. Those that are morphologically normal show a reduction in the number of primordial germ cells compared with wild-type.

34% of Cul-5EY21463 ovarioles in 1-2 day old flies contain at least one follicle with more than the normal 16 germ cells.

Many of the Cul-5EY21463 ovarioles that contain a tumorous follicle also exhibit additional phenotypes, including egg chambers with fewer than 16 germ cells, egg chambers with a layer of somatic cells extending through the germ cell area, and germaria that are devoid of germ cells. The majority of the germ cells observed in Cul-5EY21463 follicles have large, polyploid nuclei.

The tumorous follicle phenotype seen in Cul-5EY21463 homozygotes does not become significantly more penetrant with age. However in 10 day old flies some egg chambers constitute a disorganised array of germ cells of differing sizes intermingled with somatic cells. The nuclear morphology of the cells in these follicles is not pycnotic.

A small proportion of the tumorous follicles seen in Cul-5EY21463 mutants contain 2-3 randomly located oocytes, rather than the one posteriorly located oocyte that is seen in wild type. The disorganised egg chambers seen in 10 day old mutants also contain additional oocytes compared to controls. The majority of Cul-5EY21463 egg chambers that have fewer than 16 cells contain a single oocyte.

Some Cul-5EY21463 germaria contain large clusters of synchronously dividing germ cells that are not seen in controls. As in wild type no germ cell division occurs distal to the germarium.

Cul-5EY21463 tumorous follicles frequently contain more than the 4 ring canals that are found in wild type and fusomes that span more than the usual 16 germ cells.

The number of germ cells seen in a tumorous Cul-5EY21463 follicle is often not divisible by 16, indicating that the extra cells are not derived solely from an extra mitotic division.

The posterior germarium in Cul-5EY21463 mutant flies often contains disorganised aggregates of germ cells rather than the organised groups of 16 cells that are observed in wild type flies.

Tumorous follicles in Cul-5EY21463 mutants contain an extra set of differentiated polar cells compared to wild type.

Follicles containing more than 16 germ cells are present in the ovarioles of 1-2 day old Cul-5EY21463/Cul-5EY00051 flies.

Homozygous Cul-5EY21463 mutants develop normally and do not display any overt morphological defects.

Cul-2EY09124, Cul-5EY21463 double mutants show a similar increase in bouton number at the larval neuromuscular junction as either single mutant.

Cul-2EY09124, Cul-5EY21463 double mutants show similar egg chamber defects as either single mutant.

No tumorous follicles are seen in 1-2 day old flies with one copy of Cul-5EY21463 and one copy of gusf07073.

No tumorous follicles are seen in 1-2 day old flies with one copy of Cul-5EY21463 in a gusf07073 mutant background.

gusf07073/+ enhances the tumorous follicle phenotype seen in Cul-5EY21463 homozygotes. 82% of 1-2 day old flies contain egg chambers with greater than 16 germ cells compared to 34% in the Cul-5EY21463 homozygotes.

gusf07073/gusf07073 enhances the tumorous follicle phenotype seen in Cul-5EY21463 mutants. 83% of 1-2 day old flies contain egg chambers with greater than 16 germ cells compared to 34% in the Cul-5EY21463 homozygotes. 17% of double mutant ovarioles also contain disorganised egg chambers with intermingled germ cells and somatic cells, a phenotype that is only seen in 10 day old Cul-5EY21463 homozygotes.

A greater proportion of empty germaria is seen in Cul-5EY21463 gusf07073 double mutants compared to Cul-5EY21463 single mutants.
