Detailed Description

Nerve evoked excitatory synaptic currents (ESCs) and mESCs have not been detected in mutant embryos (during observations exceeding 15 minutes). Glutamate-evoked currents are much smaller than wild type.

Viable, adult heterozygous flies containing a homozygous mutant eye (generated by mitotic recombination using the "EGUF/hid method") are recovered. Photoreceptors are absent from these eyes. The electroretinogram shows no light-dependent changes in electrical activity.

Females with homozygous germline clones fail to produce any oocytes. Syx1AL266/Syx1AL371 embryos derived from females with homozygous Syx1AL266 germline clones arrest very early, usually before germ band extension. Syx1AL266/Syx1AL371 mitotic cycle 14 embryos derived from females with homozygous Syx1AL266 germline clones have large acellular patches. Within these patches the actin cytoskeleton is completely absent and the nuclei are disorganised and begin to fall away from the surface of the embryo.
