    Description

As for phoc : 7.5kb gypsy insertion within an 86bp intron in the 5' non-coding region of the transcript. Presumably a second lesion has occurred, and is responsible for the altered behavior of phocv.

    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

Maternal effect phocv/phocv embryos raised at the restrictive temperature of 25[o]C show transformation of the denticle belts of thoracic segments to the first abdominal segments and the posterior abdominal segments to the eighth segment.

Embryos display incomplete head involution with the appearance of extra copies of anterior structures. Homeotic transformation of the thoracic segments to a more posterior identity, but not beyond the first abdominal segment. Homeotic transformation of abdominal segments 6 and 7 to the identity of the eighth. Strong effect on the overall organisation and development of the CNS and PNS. A small fraction survive to larval hatching and adulthood. Some males have small darkly pigmented patches of cuticle in the fourth abdominal segment, a partial transformation of the fourth segment to a more posterior segment.

pho1/phocv suppresses the pairing-dependent silencing of wiab-7PRE.860 seen in flies homozygous for P{iab-7PRE-w.860}P24.

The addition of homozygous phocv reduces the pairing sensitive suppression of w gene expression seen in homozygous wiab-2(1.7) flies.

The addition of pho1/phocv strongly suppresses the Pairing sensitive silencing effect seen in wMcp.10, wMcp.13,wMcp.scs'.12:15 and wMcp.scs'.11. the addition of pho1/phocv has no effect on the Pairing sensitive silencing effect seen in wMcp.11, and wMcp.scs'.14. The addition pho1/phocv very strongly suppresses the Pairing sensitive silencing effect seen in the wMcp.scs'.14/ wMcp.13 (P{Mcp-w#14}AP-2stummelbein/+, P{Mcp-w#13}116/+) double heterozygous insertion.

Eye colour encoded by wen.8 is darker in pho1/pho1 or pho1/phocv background.

When heatshocked twice daily, Hsap\YY1Hsp70.T:Scer\GAL4 nearly completely corrects the antennal and sex comb defects in pho1/phocv mutant flies. Segmentation is largely normal, although pigmentation on tergite 5 is not always complete. Correction of claw structures is variable ranging from complete to partial correction.

Homozygotes die before pharate adult stage and hemizygotes survive with a weak pho phenotype. This suggests lethality could be due to a second site lethal. Recombinants were isolated, one gave a homozygous viable pho phenotype, the pho allele is referred to as phocv, it is not known if this is a partial revertant of phoc or removal of the second site lethal.
