The average number of germline stem cells per germarium is reduced in 7 and 14 day old eff⁸/eff^mer1 females compared to controls.

Homozygous eff^mer1 germline stem cell clones are lost more quickly from ovaries compared to control clones.

mr¹/mr² enhances the loss of germline stem cells that is seen in eff⁸/eff^mer1 females, such that the rate of germline stem cell loss is more rapid in the double mutant females.

Expression of CycA^{Scer\UAS.P\T.cCa} under the control of Scer\GAL4^{nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16} strongly enhances the germline stem cell phenotype in eff⁸/eff^mer1 females, such that germline stem cell loss is more rapid and more severe in the double mutant females.

Imprecise excisions of P{418}eff^mer1 which no longer contain ph-p sequences in the transposon still show the mutant phenotype, indicating that the enhancer effect of P{418}eff^mer1 on the ph-p⁴¹⁰ extra sex combs phenotype is due to inactivation of the gene into which the P{418} transposon is inserted (eff).
