Description

Small deletion within the vg locus.

Deletion of the 3' end of intron 2 and the 5' end of exon 2.

Small deletion within the Ddc locus.

Deletion removes 5' end of exon 3.

400bp deletion of vg sequences. Distal endpoint removes 28bp of the downstream exon.

deletion from + 7 to + 8; '+' values to right (distal); 0 coordinate assigned to insert position of vg21; Williams, Atkin and Bell (1990)

Comment:

~400bp deletion in intron2/exon3. The downstream endpoint is mapped at the sequence level (FBrf0052606). The 5' endpoint is approximate, (400 bases upstream of sequenced endpoint).

Detailed Description

Homozygotes have gaps in the wing margin.

Flies have notches at the wing tips. Wing length increases with increasing temperature.

vg79d5 males that are also mutant for mle4 show less severe phenotype than females also mutant for mle4.

Homozygotes display sensitivity to aminopterin.

Strapped wing phenotype.

Mild nicking of wing margin.

Homozygotes exhibit notched wings.

Strap wing phenotype.

Homozygotes have a vgnp wing phenotype. Postscutellars and halteres are wild-type. vg79d5/vg83b27 transheterozygotes have wild-type wings, halteres and postscutellars.

homozygous wing phenotype like that of vgnp halteres present postscutellar bristles present homozygous viable female-fertile?

Additional Comments
Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

sdETX4, vg1/vg79d5 wings are very small and deformed. The addition of sd::vgScer\UAS.sdTEA (driven by Scer\GAL4vg.PM) significantly rescues the wing defects.

sdETX4 vg79d5 double homozygotes show a significant reduction in wing size and an uplifting of the postscutellar bristles, similar to the phenotype of vg1 homozygotes. A similar phenotype is seen in sd1 vg79d5 double homozygotes. Flies heterozygous for vg79d5 in a sdETX4 or sd1 background have a phenotype almost as strong as sdETX4 vg79d5 or sd1 vg79d5 double homozygotes.
