Deletion in mle.
Ovaries of homozygous ovoD1rv23 females contain germline chambers in less than 20% of cases. This phenotype is partially suppressed if the females are also carrying mle1/mle14. Ovaries of homozygous ovoD1rv22 females contain germline chambers in less than 20% of cases. This phenotype is partially suppressed if the females are also carrying mle1/mle14. ovoD1rv23/ovoD1rv22; mle9/mle14 ovaries are phenotypically mosaic, containing germ cells of both male and female morphology. The mosaicism can be at the level of whole ovaries or ovarioles.
Mutant phenotype can be rescued by P element mediated transformation of a wild type mle gene copy.
