Gene Summary
Histone chaperone that facilitates histone deposition and histone exchange and removal during nucleosome assembly and disassembly (PubMed:10591219, PubMed:12381660, PubMed:14561777, PubMed:16151251, PubMed:16396992). Cooperates with chromatin assembly factor 1 (CAF-1) to promote replication-dependent chromatin assembly (PubMed:11533245). Plays a role in the formation of silent heterochromatin (PubMed:12381660, PubMed:28320872). (UniProt, Q9V464)

Structure
Protein 3D structure   (Predicted by AlphaFold)   (AlphaFold entry Q9V464)

If you don't see a structure in the viewer, refresh your browser.
Model Confidence:
  • Very high (pLDDT > 90)
  • Confident (90 > pLDDT > 70)
  • Low (70 > pLDDT > 50)
  • Very low (pLDDT < 50)

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

DNA-protein interactions: genome-wide binding profile assayed for asf1 protein in Kc167 cells; see Chromatin_types_NKI collection report. Individual protein-binding experiments listed under "Samples" at GEO_GSE22069 (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/geo/query/acc.cgi?acc=GSE22069).

dsRNA has been made from templates generated with primers directed against this gene. RNAi of asf1 results in increased arborization of ddaD and ddaE neurons, defects in muscle and defects in dendrite morphogenesis.

The tlk-asf1 pathway is important for both DNA replication and chromatin assembly.

asf1 may have a crucial role in both chromatin assembly and SWI/SNF-mediated chromatin remodelling.

Mutations in asf1 de-repress silencing at heterochromatin.

Replication-coupling assembly factor (RCAF) is a protein complex that facilitates the assembly of nucleosomes onto newly replicated DNA in vitro. RCAF is comprised of asf1, His3 and His4.
