Structural gene for NAD- dependent glutamate dehydrogenase [GDH (EC1.4.1.4)], which comprises six 57,000 dalton subunits. Enzyme activity inducible by addition of glutamate to medium. Nearly all larval activity can be isolated with the mitochondria.

Muscles are strongly stained from stage 13 on. This is earlier than seen with in situ hybridization. High magnification shows that muscles are not stained evenly with the antibody. Stain accumulates at the ends and in the center of the muscles.
