Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.cvPa at 30[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.VT049484 and Hsap\RELAAD.VT050660, or the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.VT037220 and Hsap\RELAAD.VT050660, or the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.VT044845 and Hsap\RELAAD.VT050660, results in a significant increase in the total distance and bout distance of backwards walking, with a significant decrease in forwards walking, compared to controls.

Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.cvPa at 30[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.VT014014 and Hsap\RELAAD.VT050660, or the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.VT019059 and Hsap\RELAAD.VT050660, but not the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.VT008453 and Hsap\RELAAD.VT050660, results in a small, significant increase in the total distance, but not the bout distance, of backwards walking, compared to controls; all three of these combinations significantly decrease forwards walking, compared to controls.

Inhibition (using Ctet\TeTxLCTNT.UAS) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.VT049484 and Hsap\RELAAD.VT050660, or the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.VT037220 and Hsap\RELAAD.VT050660, or the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.VT044845 and Hsap\RELAAD.VT050660, but not the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.VT014014 and Hsap\RELAAD.VT050660, nor the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.VT008453 and Hsap\RELAAD.VT050660, nor the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.VT019059 and Hsap\RELAAD.VT050660, significantly reduces backing-up behavior when adult flies reach a narrow dead end, compared to controls; in the case of Scer\GAL4DBD.VT037220 and Hsap\RELAAD.VT050660 only, there is a small, significant increase in total forwards walking distance in unimpeded conditions, compared to controls.
