There is a significant reduction in subsynaptic reticulum thickness, area and fold complexity compared to controls, while presynaptic bouton area is normal.
Larvae expressing enaScer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL4how-24B show no significant changes in evoked excitatory junctional potential (EJP) amplitude, miniature EJP (mEJP) amplitude, mEJP frequency and quantal content at the neuromuscular junction compared to controls.
Expression of enaScer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL4how-24B results in a reduction in the size and complexity of the muscle 6/7 neuromuscular junction. A reduced number of boutons is seen, along with reduced expansion of the presynaptic terminal arbor and fewer axonal branches. The neuromuscular junctions of larvae expressing enaScer\UAS.cCa under the pan-neural Scer\GAL4elav.PLu driver are indistinguishable from controls.
