spz537/Df(3L)Exel6092 transheterozygous larvae are more frequently still and crawl at significantly lower average speeds (despite being able to achieve the same fastest speeds), as compared to controls. Their larval NMJs exhibit several morphological defects compared to controls, including significant decreases in the number of type Ib boutons, in the axonal length and in the number of NMJ branch points, and a significant increase in the number of active zones.

spz537/Df(3L)Exel6092, kek634/Df(3R)ED6361 double transheterozygotes are viable and larvae exhibit a impaired locomotion phenotype (more frequent immobility and slower average speed) which is similar to that observed in spz537/Df(3L)Exel6092 transheterozygotes (although travelling shorter distances) and more severe than that observed in kek634/Df(3R)ED6361 transheterozygotes. These double mutants show larval NMJ defects that are similar to those of spz537/Df(3L)Exel6092 and more severe than those of kek634/Df(3R)ED6361.

The decrease in type I bouton number observed at the larval neuromuscular junction of spz537/Df(3L)Exel6092 single transheterozygotes and of spz537/Df(3L)Exel6092, kek634/Df(3R)ED6361 double transheterozygotes is suppressed by either the expression of kek6UAS.mRFP(Unk) under the control of Scer\GAL4Toll-6-D42 or by expression of Vap33Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG,T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU; the decrease observed in the double mutants is enhanced by the expression of Vap33Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG,T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4Toll-7. The decrease in axon length observed at the larval neuromuscular junction of these single and double transheterozygotes is also suppressed by the expression of kek6UAS.mRFP(Unk) under the control of Scer\GAL4Toll-6-D42.

The decreased axonal length observed at the larval neuromuscular junction of either spz537/Df(3L)Exel6092 single transheterozygotes or spz537/Df(3L)Exel6092, kek634/Df(3R)ED6361 double transheterozygotes is suppressed by the expression of CaMKIIT287D.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Toll-6-D42.
