1895bp genomic deletion in shot (removes the EF-hand, Gas2 and C-tail domains and results in loss of microtubule-binding activity) and after 4 additional amino acids ends in a premature stop codon.
shotΔEGC homozygous and shotΔEGC/shotk03010 transheterozygous embryos show a smaller dorsal hole width during dorsal closure, as shown by a significant increase in the length:width ratio, and the leading edge of their dorsal-most epithelial cells do not display significant changes in cell size, but present a significant decrease in the number of filopodia, present frequent long apical protrusions and present frequent abnormally long, bent and protruding microtubules, as compared to controls.
