A ~9kb long DNA fragment has been inserted into the coding sequence of the TBCD locus.
TBCD1 mutant olfactory projection neuron single-cell MARCM clones show a range of axon (from a short or missing dorsal axon branch at the lateral horn to extremely short axon) as well as dendrite (reduced in situ dendritic branching, ectopic branches or combination of the two) morphological defects.
The dendrites of homozygous TBCD1 mutant DL1 olfactory projection neurons (PNs) target not only the DL1 glomerulus, but also additional glomeruli. Although the dendrites of TBCD1 DL1 PNs target the DL1 glomerulus, the number of dendrites innervation the DL1 glomerulus is decreased and there are ectopic arborizations between the cell body and DL1 glomerulus. The axons do not reach the mushroom body and the lateral horn. Ectopic dendrite arborization is first observed at 48 hours after puparium formation (APF). There are no detectable differences in axon morphology until 72 hours APF, but 1 day after eclosion the dorsal branch in the lateral horn is lost and the PN axons have developed swellings typical of axon degeneration.
In wild type DL1 projection neuron clones generated in a TBCD1/+ background an increased number of dendrites spill over to the outside of the antennal lobe compared to controls

Dscam105518 DL1 projection neuron mutant clones generated in a TBCD1/+ background have an increased number of dendrites that spill over to the outside of the antennal lobe compared to wild type clones in a TBCD1/+ mutant background. The loss of the dorsal branch seen in Dscam105518 mutant clones alone is not enhanced in a TBCD1 mutant background.
Expression of CG11723Scer\UAS.cOa under the control of Scer\GAL4GH146 does not suppress the defects seen in TBCD1 mutant DL1 projection neuron clones.
Expression of CG4259Scer\UAS.cOa under the control of Scer\GAL4GH146 does not suppress the defects seen in TBCD1 mutant DL1 projection neuron clones.
A TBCD1/+ mutant background partially suppresses the loss of mushroom body α and β lobes seen in flies expressing Dscam1exon17.2.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4ey-OK107.
The axonal as well as dendritic morphological defects observed in TBCD1 mutant olfactory projection neurons MARCM clones can be partially rescued by expression of Hsap\TBCDScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4GH146, whereas the expression of any of the following Hsap\TBCDM387R.Scer\UAS, Hsap\TBCDY760stop.Scer\UAS or Hsap\TBCDR772C.Scer\UAS has significantly reduced rescue ability.
Tbcd1 is rescued by Scer\GAL4GH146/TbcdUAS.cOa
Expression of TBCDScer\UAS.cOa under the control of Scer\GAL4GH146 rescues the defects seen in TBCD1 mutant DL1 projection neuron clones.
